At least, that’s what I told my dad when I decided to hang up my acting shoes, move across the country to San Francisco, and become a copywriter. (He was still horrified.) Over a decade later, I still believe my experience in the theatre world prepared me more for my job than any ad course I’ve taken. In theatre you have to learn how to collaborate fast, you have to get inside the mind of the character you’re playing, you have to really, really love words, and you have to convince an ensemble/director/backer that your vision is the right one.
